    The 600 Series is one of the most successful and influential loudspeaker ranges in Bowers & Wilkins history.

    For more than 20 years, each generation has defined new standards in its class for sound quality and technical accomplishment.

    => In 1995, the original 600 Series redefined the capabilities of affordable loudspeakers with the introduction of Kevlardrive units across every model.
    => In 1999, the 600 Series 2 added an improved flat-ring suspension tweeter, Nautilus tube loading plus paper/Kevlar bass drive units, replacing the Cobex used earlier
    => In 2001 welcomed the 600 Series 3, with an enhanced chassis for its midrange and bass drive units plus aluminium bass drivers for 3-way systems. It also introduced Flowport for every model.
    => In 2007, 600 Series 4 introduced FST midrange drive units to 3-way loudspeakers plus Neodymium magnets for all tweeters.

    And now in the year 2014, it is a time we raise the bar again, by introducing the all new 600 series Series 5!! featuring the:

    1) B&W 683 S2
    2) B&W 684 S2
    3) B&W 685 S2
    4) B&W 686 S2

    and counting.. such as the B&W HTM62 S2, B&W HTM61 S2 center speakers.

    Below would be some of the technologies which you can find in the new 600 series:

    1) Dual-layer tweeters are used in all models in the range.
    2) The dual-layer dome is combined with decoupling to create the Decoupled Double Dome tweeter, - Preventing cabinet vibrations reaching the tweeter leads to cleaner, sweeter high-frequency performance.
    3) All models use woven Kevlar cones. Energy absorbing Anti-Resonance Plugs (as found on PM1). These simple mushroom-shaped plugs are a tight fit in the voice-coil former and ensure it stays in shape at the upper frequenciesof the driver’s response.
    4) Dual-layer aluminium cones (Bass Driver), with a rear aluminium ring around its edge similar to dual-layer tweeters

    For an audition of the new 600 series, please do drop by to our showroom which is located in:

This is how we did the progress.

    One of my favourite audio quotes is nearly 50 years old, and the man who said it, John Bowers, died nearly 30 years ago.
    That quote is: “The best loudspeaker isn’t the one that gives the most; it’s the one that loses the least.”

    In 1974, B&W pioneered the use of Kevlar as a choice of mid-range driver material, over a span of 40 years it has been developed and improved. In B&W, our engineers keep on with our research on new materials to be use in our mid-range drivers and constantly strive to improve the performance. In 2007, an all-new material has been revealed and it is now being used in the all new B&W 800D3 series range of speakers.

    The midrange driver uses an unusual material… So unusual that B&W isn’t saying what it is (at least until the patents are in place), other than to tell us that: “it’s not Kevlar… it’s even better than Kevlar”.*

    B&W calls the material ‘Continuum’ and says it has a ‘unique composite construction.’

    This new mid-range cone that replace Kevlar, and it’s has same concept as Kevlar, to control flexibility, to control breakup mode.
    Continuum is more flexible and it’s more damp, continuum able to control mechanical resonance better.
    Hence gives much better vocal and cleaner vocal.

    The research for continuum start as early as 2007, took B&W 8 years to refine and perfect it. It’s thin and light and it’s transparent, it very hard to make this material compare to Kevlar.

    With B&W teams of acoustic engineers is constantly pushing the limite of their understnding of audio technology, and the result of this dedicated pursuit of perfection is an almotst constant flow of technologies which we are looking at the development of the all new Aerofoil cone which it is use in the all new B&W 800 D3 towers speakers such as the B&W 804D3, B&W 803D3, B&W 802D3 and B&W 800D3.

    The 2015 800 Series Diamond saw the first appearance of a new type of bass driver – the Aerofoil cone. It adhered to the same theory as the previous generation of Rohacell® cones in that it had a high stiffness and was based on a sandwich construction, but the next step was finding a way to change its geometry to deliver superior stiffness where it was most needed.

    So in 2012 experiments began to create the ideal form for a new bass cone.

    The result of this research is the Aerofoil. The cone’s shape has been computer-optimised, and uses a continuously variable thickness structure that delivers maximum stiffness in critical areas.

    This unique structure is made possible by an all-new core material that can be formed into the desired Aerofoil shape. The combination extends the cone’s pistonic behaviour further up the audible range, for cleaner, punchier bass performance.

    Hi all,

    After a successful launch of the B&W 800 D3 series of loudspeakers, the B&W 805 D3 has gotten itself great reviews from What HiFi.

    B&W 805 D3 has gotten itself:
    => 5 Star rated in What HiFi

    “Small excerpts from WhatHiFi review”
    => B&W 805 D3 hardly goes out of its way to dispel the ‘more of the same’ notion, but start delving and you’ll find B&W’s engineers have left little unturned in their bid to improve performance.

    => The Diamond dome tweeter remains a highlight, and despite appearances, in this latest form only the diaphragm is carried over from the last version

    => The new material, called Continuum, has been developed in-house and is designed to take the key properties of Kevlar – the controlled break-up behaviour, good self damping and relatively low mass – to the next level

    => It’s a superbly focused image, nicely layered and stable

    => The sense of openness is impressive, and is in part due to the tweeter’s out-of-cabinet position.

    As to summarize this:
    => Excellent resolution
    => Impressive stereo imaging
    => Strong dynamics
    => Build and finish
